How to Set Intentions (A Softer Approach to Big Dreams)

Intention Setting for 2025

Want to set Intentions but not sure how?

I have experimented with ways to set goals, resolutions, to-dos, nice to haves, vision boards, dreams whatever you want to call it for over 8 years now.

What I have learnt in the last 2 years, is what’s changed everything. Setting Intentions run deeper than nice to have goals, a new body, a new car, a new career. If you’re writing out goals that are ideologies without no specific action, and more importantly without understanding really why you’re aiming for these anyway – then you’re missing the point.

Goal setting is a clue for what needs to change. So let’s explore this more:

1. Reflect Before You Project

Before you think about where you’re going, take a moment to reflect where you’ve been.

  • What did 2024 teach you?
  • What moments made you feel most alive, proud, or aligned?
  • What felt heavy, misaligned (not quite right), or like it wasn’t serving you anymore?

Give yourself permission to celebrate the wins and release the things that no longer fit. Sometimes, the best way to move forward is to lighten the load.

2. Choose Themes, Not Goals

Rather than locking yourself into rigid goals, think about the themes you want to guide your year.

Ask yourself:

  • How do I want to feel in this next year?
  • What values or qualities do I want to embody? And why? Why? Why?
  • What areas of my life need the most attention or care?

Themes like “ease,” “connection,” or “abundance” can act as a compass, giving you direction without forcing you into a narrower path.

3. Create Intentions That Align With Your Energy

Intentions should meet you where you are—not where you think you should be.

If you’re in a season of growth, your intentions might centre around stepping into opportunities, saying yes, and expanding or unravelling.

If you’re in a season of healing or recalibration, your intentions might focus on rest, real forms of self-care, and grounding.

There’s no “right” way to set intentions. The magic is in making them personal and true to your current season of life.

4. Pair Your Intentions With Embodied Action

Intentions are powerful, but they’re even more impactful when paired with action. The key is to make your actions feel doable and supportive, not overwhelming.

For example:

  • If your intention is to have more ease in your life, what small rituals or systems can you introduce to simplify your day? Start with the day. How does this impact the week, the month, the year?
  • If your intention is to deepen your connections, how can you create moments of presence with loved ones, colleagues, or even yourself?

Think small, thoughtful shifts—not giant, sweeping changes.

5. Celebrate Progress, Not Perfection

This is your soft reminder that intentions aren’t about perfection. They’re about alignment – with who you are now, with this season of your life, to bring and evolve you to the next.

Some days you’ll feel completely in tune with your intentions, and other days life will get in the way. That’s okay. Celebrate the small wins. Trust the process. Growth isn’t linear, and the beauty of intention-setting is that it creates space for you to show up imperfectly yet intentionally.

This year try and not make it about doing more, and instead do what matters.

When you set intentions from a place of self-compassion and alignment, you’re not just setting yourself up for a successful year—you’re creating a foundation for a life and business that feel deeply, authentically yours.

Here’s to 2025. A year of softness, depth, and dreams realised.

What are your intentions for this year? I’d love to hear them.
